Local History

This collection features McMinn County and surrounding areas, including Monroe, Polk, and Bradley Counties. 

The list of materials is embedded below and is also available for browsing on our digital card catalog. Please note that some of these materials are rare and fragile, and are therefore unavailable for checkout. 

Some materials are not listed in the digital card catalog, including yearbooks, hand-written genealogical records, and publications by the McMinn County Historical Society. Please call the library at (423) 263-9475 for questions about these materials. 

In addition to physical materials, our Local History collection includes digital archives of the Etowah Enterprise from 1924-1991. 

The Enterprise was a weekly newspaper that ran in Etowah for over 80 years. More information about the Enterprise and its history is available here.

The Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) is an online library that gives Tennessee residents access to magazines, journals, newspapers, essays, e-books, primary source materials, test preparation, homework help, genealogy records, career search, and more. TEL resources are available free to the public from any computer with Internet access in Tennessee.

TEL's genealogical resources include access to HeritageQuest and Ancestry.com, as well as newspaper records including The Knoxville News Sentinel, The Memphis Commercial Appeal, and The Tennessean.
