The Friends of Etowah Carnegie Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that formed in 2011. Their first fundraising goal was to raise enough money to install an ADA-accessible lift in the library, ensuring equal access for everyone.
Today, the Friends continue their mission to enhance library services and facilities. They do this by fundraising, volunteering, and raising the community profile of the library. As a non-profit organization, the Friends are solely supported by volunteers and donations from the community.
Over the years, the Friends have helped to realize many projects at the library, including:
Purchase of new computer carrels (2015)
Installation of the library’s accessible lift (2017)
Digitization of Etowah Enterprise newspapers (2018)
Sponsorship of the library's historical marker (2019)
Purchase of a new overnight book drop (2023)
Purchase of new bookshelves (2011-2024)
Annual sponsorship of library programs, including Summer Reading Program
The Friends are currently fundraising for Summer Reading 2026 — "Unearth a Story (dinosaurs/archeology)", and to assist with the library's upcoming first-floor renovations. Renovations are expected to be finished by December 2027.
The Friends are always in need volunteers to help raise money, advocate for the library, and assist with special events.
