Summer Reading Program 2024: Adventure Begins at Your Library
Program Descriptions
All programs will be held at the library (723 Ohio Avenue, Etowah, TN) unless stated otherwise. Lunch will be served at 1:00 pm and programs will begin at 1:30 pm.
Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration – Tuesday, June 4th
Come celebrate summer reading with us at our carnival-style kickoff, featuring face painting, balloon art, games, and bounce houses! This program will be held at the Etowah Community Center (155 Robinson Street, Etowah, TN).
If you haven’t registered for Summer Reading yet, this is the perfect day to sign up!
Australia Day, Koala Mask Craft – Wednesday, June 5th
We will learn about Australia through our story time by reading Quacks Like a Duck by Stephanie Campisi. We will then complete a fun koala mask craft to celebrate the country’s most popular animal!
Tasmania Day, Petting Zoo with CW Farms – Thursday, June 6th
For this program, there will be a petting zoo at the library! We will be reading Wombat, A Reluctant Hero by Christian Trimmer for story time, then coming face-to-face with some real-life animals.
Japan Day, Parade Lanterns Craft – Tuesday, June 11th
We will be reading Tokyo Night Parade by J.P. Takahashi for story time, then we will design and construct our very own parade lanterns!
India Day, Elephant Mask Craft – Wednesday, June 12th
We will be reading A Gift for Amma: Market Day in India by Meera Sriram for story time. This day’s craft will be designing an elaborate elephant mask!
China Day, Dragon Puppet Craft – Thursday, June 13th
We will be reading Grace’s Chinese New Year by Jackie Huang for story time. We’ll craft our own fancy dragon puppets!
Egypt Day, Pyramid Craft – Tuesday, June 18th
We will be reading We’re Sailing Down the Nile by Laurie Krebs for story time. We’ll then travel back in time to construct pyramids of our own just like in Ancient Egypt!
Library Closed for Juneteenth (No Program) – Wednesday, June 19th
Morocco Day, Bambini Bubbles Party Program – Thursday, June 20th
For story time today we will be reading Little Ricky Explores Morocco by Elisa McAlpine. Today’s program is a bubble party! The kids can play in the water and foam! This program will be outside, you may want to bring a bathing suit for your child, as well as a towel and sunscreen.
France Day, Straw Eiffel Tower Craft – Tuesday, June 25th
Today’s story time we will be reading A Walk in Paris by Salvator Rubbino. We’ll be using paper & plastic straws to build our own models of the Eiffel Tower!
Italy Day, Italian Ice Fun – Wednesday, June 26th
Miss Noreen will lead story time today by reading Living In…Italy by Chloe Perkins. Miss Noreen will share some stories from her time of living in Italy and teach us some words in Italian. We will be serving Italian ice after story time this day!
Ireland Day, Beaded Shamrock Craft – Thursday, June 27th
We will be reading Irish Alphabet by Rickey Pittman for story time. We will craft a shamrock from pipe cleaners and decorate them with beads!
Canada Day, Canadian Beaver Craft – Tuesday, July 2nd
We will be reading A Canadian Year: Twelve months in the life of Canada’s kids by Tania McCartney for story time. We will craft a beaver puppet to celebrate Canada’s most popular native animal!
Mexico Day, Papel Picado Craft – Wednesday, July 3rd
We will be reading Off We Go to Mexico! An Adventure in the Sun by Laurie Krebs for story time. We’ll craft and design our own papel picado decorations, which are staple celebration decorations in Mexico!
Library Closed for Independence Day (No Program) – Thursday, July 4th
Brazil Day, Paper Plate Parrot Craft – Tuesday, July 9th
We will be reading Little Globetrotters: Brazil by Andrea Gayle Pereira for story time. We’ll celebrate Brazil’s most popular bird by crafting a parrot out of paper plates!
Chile Day, Chilean Rainstick Craft – Wednesday, July 10th
We will be reading Chicks and Salsa by Aaron Reynolds for story time to celebrate Chile’s production of chiles and peppers! We’ll craft our personalized Chilean rainsticks to celebrate the country’s culture.
Summer Reading Wrap-Up Pizza Party and Prize Raffle – Thursday, July 11th
